Our Story

At Bengali Mustard, we don’t just make mustard. We preserve a tradition.
Our journey began not in a factory or marketing boardroom, but in the bustling kitchens of Bengali homes, where mustard has been more than just an ingredient. It has been the soul of meals, the bond between generations, and the unmistakable flavor of countless memories. Founded with a mission to share this bold and authentic taste with the world, Bengali Mustard was born out of a deep respect for heritage and a desire to keep it alive in modern kitchens.

Who We Are

We are a small-batch mustard brand based in Edison, New Jersey, with roots firmly planted in the rich culinary landscape of Bengal, India. Our founder, Bhavesh Bhatt, grew up watching his grandmother grind mustard seeds on a sil-batta, creating the fiery mustard paste that gave Bengali cuisine its unique edge. Years later, thousands of miles away, he found that the same passion still lived in him — and in the taste that simply couldn’t be replaced by commercial mustard jars.

Driven by nostalgia and a commitment to authenticity, Bhavesh set out to recreate the mustard of his childhood. What started as a home kitchen experiment quickly grew into a brand that now serves customers across the U.S., seeking out that sharp, earthy, and powerful mustard only Bengal can offer.

Our Philosophy

Our mustard is more than a condiment. It’s a conversation starter, a memory evoker, and a flavor that cuts through the noise.

We believe in:

  • Simplicity: Only five ingredients — mustard seeds, vinegar, salt, turmeric, and chili. That’s it.

  • Purity: No preservatives, no artificial colors, no fillers.

  • Small Batches: We make our mustard in limited quantities to ensure quality, consistency, and freshness.

  • Cultural Integrity: Every jar tells the story of Bengal. From our spice ratios to our label design, we honor the region and its rich culinary heritage.

Our Process

We use traditional methods adapted to modern standards. Our mustard is stone-ground in small batches, using carefully selected ingredients. The mustard seeds are soaked for just the right amount of time to release their pungency, then blended with cold-pressed vinegar and hand-measured spices to preserve their kick and integrity.

Every jar is filled and labeled by hand. Every order is packed with care. This isn’t mass manufacturing; this is mustard,
as it was meant to be made.

Why We Do It

But this isn’t just a brand for Bengalis or Indians — it’s for anyone who appreciates honest flavor, spice with purpose, and products that are made with heart.

We want to:

  • Inspire cooking and creativity in the kitchen
